Adrien Toyon and Ricardo Dos Santos crawl into Round 2 at Reef Hawaiian Pro

France?s Adrien Toyon and Brazil?s Ricardo Dos Santos made it into the second round (Round of 96) at the Reef Hawaiian Pro, the first of three events on the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing, after emerging triumphant in their respective Round 1 (Round of 128) heats that went down at the North Shore of Oahu in Hawaii on Friday, November 16, 2012.

Hawaii?s Gavin Gillette finished behind Toyon in second place during the 13th heat to make it through into the second round as well, while Basque Country?s Hodei Collazo and local talent Koa Rothman got eliminated from the competition after rounding out the bottom-two positions.

The 14th heat saw Hawaii?s Kevin Sullivan accompany Dos Santos into Round 2 after claiming runner-up spot, whereas America?s Cory Arrambide and Hawaii?s Chris Foster finished third and fourth respectively, which resulted in their ejection from the contention for the event title.

With promising talent from around the globe in contention for the attractive $250,000 prize purse on offer, it was only natural to expect the day to be full of thrilling performances and outstanding finishes.

The conditions continued to remain challenging on the second active day of the competition, but that still did not close the gates to exquisite tube riding.

Pitted against Gillette, Collazo and Rothman during the 13th heat, Toyon had his work cut out for him.

The French surfer scored a 5.07 and 4.50 off his best-two waves to get to a heat-total of 9.57 points, which proved to be sufficient to earn him the top spot.

Gillette finished in second place with a heat-total of 7.40 points, which included a 3.83 and 3.57 points.

Collazo and Rothman finished with a heat-total of 6.93 and 5.57 points respectively, consequently getting eliminated from the event.

The 14th heat saw Dos Santos emerging triumphant after getting the better of Sullivan, Arrambide and Foster.

The Brazilian surfer got off to an impressive start, earning a 7.67 off his first business-wave and backing it up with a 4.17-point ride, thus finishing with a heat-total of 11.84 points.

Sullivan finished in second place after scoring a 5.83 and 5.27 off his best-two waves for a heat-total of 11.10 points.

Arrambide finished third with a heat-total of 8.26 points, while Foster had to settle for fourth place after registering a heat-total of 1.43 points.
