?Friday Night Lights? Star Zach Gilford Weds Kiele Sanchez

‘Friday Night Lights’ star Zach Gilford wed Kiele Sanchez yesterday ending 2012 on a rather high note. Nothing like a wedding to send the year off in style. The newlyweds said ‘I Do’ in what he called a magical place. US Weekly is reporting that Zach and Kiele wed in California but details of the actual wedding are being kept mum, as of now anyway. All the magazine knows is that they got hitched but word on the street is they tied the knot in Napa Valley. This is the first marriage for Gilford but the second for Sanchez, who was previously married to director and writer Zach Helm. The actor popped the question to the beautiful actress 13 months ago. They met in 2010 when they were both costarring on the ABC pilot? The Matadors, which was never picked up for series so we as viewers never got to see them in action together. The show may have not gone anywhere but Zach and Kiele took away something way better than a series by filming that pilot. As I am sure you all know Gilford is best known for his role on the hit NBC show ‘Friday Night Lights’ as [...]

PFT: AFC, NFC playoff schedules are set

Dallas Cowboys v Washington RedskinsGetty Images

As you take a breath following a riveting regular-season finale between the Packers and Vikings and wait for what necessarily will be the first game of the 2012 postseason, take a look at this item from Judy Battista of the New York Times regarding the manner in which the NFL planned the final course of a 17-week meal.

The seeds were planted several years ago, when the NFL decided to go with intra-division games for the last week of the season.? More recently, the NFL began to pay attention to the scheduling of the games played on the final Sunday of the season.

That Cowboys-Redskins game, with the winner capturing the NFC East and the loser heading home, nearly couldn?t have happened because the NFL and NBC considered placing the Week 16 game between the Saints and Cowboys on NBC.? Doing so would have maxed out the Cowboys? national-TV allotment for the year, preventing the Cowboys from appearing in prime time in Week 17.

In all, 10 of the 16 games from the final week of the season had playoff implications, and the NFL deliberately selected games like the Packers and Vikings for a 4:25 p.m. ET kickoff and not for prime time because there?s no guarantee that the outcome would have changed playoff scenarios.? The Packers could have sewn up the No. 2 seed before 8:30 p.m. ET, and the Vikings could have nailed down a playoff berth before playing their final game of the year.

And so the NFL chose to go with Cowboys-Redskins, even though FOX didn?t want to give up that game.

?FOX wasn?t thrilled, but we have constant dialogue with them,? Howard Katz, NFL senior V.P. of broadcasting and media operations told Battista.? ?They let us know they?d like to keep the Dallas game if at all possible. It could have been Green Bay going for the 1 seed, Minnesota having to win to get the 6 seed and Adrian Peterson going for the rushing record. But in the end, there were things that could have negated it all. We had to go with the sure thing.?

The only sure thing was Cowboys at Redskins, which became even more of a sure thing once the Bears won, preventing the Redskins from backing in to the postseason with a loss.

The message is that, while the Week 17 slate already featured plenty of compelling games with playoff implications, the NFL specifically configured the day to maximize the drama inherent to the effort both to qualify for the playoffs and to capture the highest possible seed.

For Sunday night, the drama will be high.? Cowboys vs. Redskins, in the biggest installment of the rivalry since they squared off in the 1982 NFC title game.

Report: Kia design chief Peter Schreyer named Hyundai-Kia President

Peter Schreyer

Automotive News reports Peter Schreyer has been appointed the first non-Korean president of Hyundai-Kia Motor Group. Schreyer is expected to retain his role as the chief designer for Kia, while also taking on new, high-level executive duties. He is now one of three presidents at the automaker.

The designer made a name for himself at Volkswagen, where he penned the 1998 New Beetle and lent his eye to the Audi TT. In 2006, Schreyer moved to Kia, where he quickly revised the brand's styling from bland, forgettable lines to bold, "tiger nose" creations. Analysts attribute much of the brand's recent sales success to Schreyer's influence.

Kia is expected to move 2.75 million units worldwide next year, while sister company Hyundai will likely beat its 2012 sales forecast of 4.29 million units, according to CFO Lee Won Hee.

Same-Sex Marriage In Maine: The First Wedding (PHOTOS)

Congratulations, Mainers!

The same-sex marriage law that voters passed in November went into effect at midnight on December 29th. Maine joins Washington, Massachusetts, Iowa, Vermont, New Hampshire, New York, Connecticut and the District of Columbia in enacting same-sex marriage laws; same-sex couples there may obtain marriage licences and get married.

To see what marriage equality looks like in the Pine Tree State, we found photos from the first legal marriage in Maine. The grooms were Steven Bridges and Michael Snell and they wed at about 12:25 AM on Saturday.

"It's historic. We've waited our entire lives for this," Bridges told the Associated Press.

See their journey to City Hall in Portland in the slideshow below.

  • Steven Bridges, left, and Michael Snell, a couple for nine years, arrive at City Hall in Portland, Maine.

  • Snell and Bridges speak to a reporter before obtaining a marriage license under the state's new law. Bridges and Snell held a commitment ceremony six years ago.

  • Steven Bridges receives a wedding ring from Michael Snell early Saturday. "We finally feel equal and happy to live in Maine," <a href="http://bangordailynews.com/2012/12/28/news/portland/maines-first-married-gay-couple-we-finally-feel-equal/">Bridges told the Bangor Daily News</a>.

Experts: New shale fields to help stabilise global oil prices

Oil prices are expected to be fluctuate less in 2013, remaining on a par with or even softening slightly from 2012 levels, say energy experts.

Suthep Liumsirijarern, director-general of the Energy Policy and Planning Office, said North America's new oil shale field will come on stream next year with production of about 500,000 barrels of oil equivalent, causing crude oil imports to the US to drop.

Globally, oil demand will go up slightly from 89 million barrels per day this year to 90 million bpd.

Meanwhile, the economic crisis in Europe and the US economy will not fully recover, resulting in easing oil prices in 2013, he said.

Dubai crude is targeted to trade in a range of US$108-113 a barrel compared with an average of $109.50 this year.

In Thailand, the government's first-time car buyer scheme will drive up petrol demand by 4.9% next year to an average of 21.7 million litres a day from 20 million this year.

Diesel demand will grow by 2.6% to 57.7 million litres a day, while electricity consumption will increase by 6.13% from 161 billion megawatt-hours this year.

"We must prepare for energy-price restructuring after it has been delayed for a long time, involving liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and compressed natural gas (CNG)," said Mr Suthep.

LPG and CNG prices have been subsidised by the state-owned Oil Fund since 2008, costing about 200 billion baht to date.

Anon Sirisaengtaksin, the chief executive of PTT Global Chemicals Plc, said the petrochemicals industry is unlikely to bottom out next year like analysts estimated since the global economy has remained slow.

Petrochemical demand will come mainly from Asia, where economies remain largely sound, according to Mr Anon.

"We have to wait until the US and European economies bounce back. Then signs [of petrochemical prices] bottoming out will emerge," he said.

Phichai Tinsuntisuk, head of the alternative energy industry club of the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI), said ethanol demand will grow by more than 50% from 1.2 million litres a day this year to 2 million litres a day in 2013.

Major automotive manufacturers have launched vehicles that are compatible with E85 and E20.

Meanwhile, the FTI has called on the government to proceed cautiously with the One Tambon One Power Plant scheme to ensure the success of the plan.

Under the programme, the government will introduce biomass projects for communities in remote areas by offering grants, investment privileges and project financing.

"The government should come up with good planing of this project, as local communities lack the expertise to operate power plants," said Mr Phichai.

Mini-Review: Black Coffee Lyrics

I first read about Black Coffee Lyrics in Jetstar Magazine while heading north to visit some family. ?It received high praise in the mag and seemed like a pretty cool place, I took the magazine with me and dug it out of my bookshelf today to check up on the name and location of what was reported to be an amazing coffee, cocktail and dining experience.

I am so glad I did. ?Read on to hear what I discovered during my evening at Black Coffee Lyrics.

Possibly the best-kept secret of the Gold Coast, Black Coffee Lyrics is a small cocktail, beer and wine bar cum restaurant situated in an unassuming arcade off Surfers Paradise Boulevard in the heart of Surfers Paradise.

bcl

?

Featuring a rough urban interior lit by the warm glow of incandescent bulbs in an eclectic assortment of fittings, Black Coffee Lyrics has a warm, welcoming atmosphere that is set off by the upbeat attitude of the staff.

I was seated promptly upon arrival (though a larger group ahead of me was turned away because there was no room for them ? book ahead if you?re planning on visiting with friends!) and the first thing I was asked by the staff was what I typically enjoyed drinking. ?I mentioned my preference for scotch and that I was looking forward to trying an espresso cocktail and I was instantly directed to the appropriate place in the incredibly comprehensive drinks menu ? to be perused while the bar?s scotch expert was sought out to assist me.

A quick aside ? the drinks menu here is incredible. ?A vast array of boutique beers from around the world, an incredibly comprehensive wine list and a seemingly endless array of cocktails to suit any taste. ?I can understand why the staff ask about your preference upon arrival.

In short order an extremely helpful man arrived at my table and ran me through the bar?s scotch selection. ?I decided to start with a dram of Oban 14 year old, neat, which arrived reasonably quickly and was deemed satisfactory. ?I followed that up with an Espresso Martini #3 made on the same malt.

The #3 is a unique combination of espresso coffee, a single malt Scotch or Irish whisky and a fresh citrus hit in the form of Cointreau. ?The deep flavour of the espresso with a subtle caramel note and the evident crema was pleasingly balanced by the fresh touch of citrus and the lightness of the highland scotch. ?The subtle smokiness and peatiness of the Oban whisky (something reminiscent of an Islay malt) added a bit of extra body to the cocktail and the end result was a thoroughly satisfying and complex drink that I really didn?t want to end.

While sipping my cocktail I selected the pork belly dish from the food menu. ?A warning to those with big appetites, the portion sizes here are small, but the food is an eminently pleasing culinary experience. ?The pork belly was cooked to perfection, topped with lightly pickled apples and featuring a pleasingly crisp skin. ?The balance of flavours was faultless and though I?m no great food critic I can safely say that it was the best pork belly that I have ever had the pleasure of eating. ?It melted in the mouth, the texture was ideal and the smell and taste were second to none.

I finished my #3 shortly after the pork belly and I selected a dessert and clean cocktail to finish the night. ? ?An espresso?cr?me?br?l?e and a dry Gin?Martini?with a twist seemed like a reasonable plan, so the order was placed. ?The?cr?me?br?l?e was served with a side of crushed nuts and a scoop of Baileys Irish Cream ice cream. ?The nuts were well suited to the dish and the inclusion of pistachios was welcome ? their flavour complimented the ice cream and the espresso?cr?me, while also adding texture to the dish.

Throughout my time at Black Coffee Lyrics I was discussing the finer points of drinks with the staff as demand for service ebbed and flowed and I had been recommended a Spanish gin to try. ?The recommendation was sound and I enjoyed one of the best Martinis of my life as the evening wound down. ?I can highly recommend this bar not only on the considerable strength of their food and drink, but also on the knowledge and service of their staff, who have demonstrable knowledge and experience in the world of spirits and who aim to make each visit a pleasure for the customer.

Black Coffee Lyrics is a diamond in the rough. ?Located in the most unlikely place it sets the bar (no pun intended) for fine dining and cocktail venues on the Gold Coast. ?While not a cheap night out (my evening detailed above came to $85 when all was said and done) the experience is worth every cent. ?Highly recommended.

Indian woman dies in Singapore after gang-rape, beating in India

SINGAPORE (AP) -- A young Indian woman who was gang-raped and severely beaten on a bus died today at a Singapore hospital, after her horrific ordeal galvanized Indians to demand greater protection for women from sexual violence that impacts thousands of them every day.

She "passed away peacefully" with her family and officials of the Indian embassy by her side," said Dr. Kevin Loh, the chief executive of Mount Elizabeth hospital where she had been treated since Thursday. "The Mount Elizabeth Hospital team of doctors, nurses and staff join her family in mourning her loss," he said.

He said the woman had remained in an extremely critical condition since Thursday when she was flown to Singapore from India. "Despite all efforts by a team of eight specialists in Mount Elizabeth Hospital to keep her stable, her condition continued to deteriorate over these two days. She had suffered from severe organ failure following serious injuries to her body and brain. She was courageous in fighting for her life for so long against the odds but the trauma to her body was too severe for her to overcome."

The woman and a male friend, who have not been identified, were traveling in a public bus in the Indian capital, New Delhi, after watching a film on the evening of Dec. 16 when they were attacked by six men who raped her. They also beat the couple and inserted an iron rod into her body resulting in severe organ damage. Both of them were then stripped and thrown off the bus,

according to police.

Indian police have arrested six people in connection with the attack, which left the victim with severe internal injuries, a lung infection and brain damage. She also suffered from a heart attack while in the hospital in India.

Indian High Commissioner, or ambassador, T.C.A. Raghanvan told reporters that the scale of the injuries she suffered was "very grave" and in the end it "proved too much.

He said arrangements are being made to take her body back to India.

The frightening nature of the crime shocked Indians, who have come out in their thousands for almost daily demonstrations, demanding stronger protection for women and death penalty for rape, which is now punishable by a maximum life imprisonment. Women face daily harassment across India, ranging from catcalls on the streets, groping and touching in public transport to rape.

But the tragedy has forced India to confront the reality that sexually assaulted women are often blamed for the crime, which forces them to keep quiet and not report it to authorities for fear of exposing their families to ridicule. Also, police often refuse to accept complaints from those who are courageous enough to report the rapes and the rare prosecutions that reach courts drag on for years.

After 10 days at a New Delhi hospital, the victim was brought to the Mount Elizabeth hospital, which specializes in multi-organ transplant. But by late Friday, the young woman's condition had "taken a turn for the worse" and her vital signs had deteriorated. It was clear then that she would not survive long.

Indian attitudes toward rape are so entrenched that even politicians and opinion makers have often suggested that women should not go out at night or wear clothes that might be seen provocative.

Other politicians have come under fire for comments insulting the protesters and diminishing the crime.

On Friday, Abhijit Mukherjee, a national lawmaker and the son of India's president, apologized for calling the protesters "highly dented and painted" women, who go from discos to demonstrations.

"I tender my unconditional apology to all the people whose sentiments got hurt," he told NDTV news.

Separately, authorities in Punjab took action Thursday when an 18-year-old woman killed herself by drinking poison a month after she told police she was gang-raped.

State authorities suspended one police officer and fired two others on accusations they delayed investigating and taking action in the case. The three accused in the rape were only arrested Thursday night, a month after the crime was reported.

"This is a very sensitive crime, I have taken it very seriously," said Paramjit Singh Gill, a top police officer in the city of Patiala.

The Press Trust of India reported that the woman was raped Nov. 13 and reported the attack to police Nov. 27. But police harassed the girl, asked her embarrassing questions and took no action against the accused, PTI reported, citing police sources.

Authorities in the eastern state of Chhattisgarh also suspended a police officer on accusations he refused to register a rape complaint from a woman who said she had been attacked by a driver.

How badly will budget cuts hurt troops, DOD civilians?

WASHINGTON ? In the final presidential debate, President Barack Obama declared to the American people with unflinching certainty that sequestration ?will not happen.?

Two months later, the Jan. 1 deadline is looming, with no debt reduction deal in sight.

Now what?

How quickly and deeply will these automatic defense budget cuts totaling about $500 billion over the next decade hit troops, Defense Department civilians and contractors? And how much will they hurt?

Many experts agree: ?The sky is not going to suddenly fall on Jan. 2,? said Todd Harrison, a defense budget expert at the Center for Strategic and Budgetary Assessments, a Washington think tank. ?In fact, we are likely to see hardly any impacts in that first week.?

But in the weeks that follow, the DOD could begin implementing the furlough plan for civilian employees that was announced before Christmas by Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta.

The Defense Department could hit the entire civilian workforce ? about 700,900 full-time employees ? with furloughs. In that instance, offices would not be shuttered. Furloughs would come in waves and in a rolling manner, so only a handful of civilian employees from each department would stay home without pay each month.

Harrison expects that by early spring the Defense Department will have to move to reduce its peacetime operations. For example, the number of flight hours that pilots get for regular training and the number of live-fire exercises for ground forces could be reduced. Maintenance of equipment, such as ships and ground vehicles, would be deferred.

Deputy Secretary of Defense Ashton Carter testified to the House Armed Services Committee in August that sequestration would allow for less training for later-deploying Army and Marine Corps units to Afghanistan and would reduce readiness of other units if other conflicts arise.

Troops also could see reductions in base support services, facility and government-owned family housing maintenance and commissary hours, Carter said. They may also see Tricare health coverage affected, with delayed payments to medical service providers. That could cause providers to deny medical services to some retirees and family members, he testified.

Harrison predicts that the first pink slips for layoffs in the defense contracting industry could go out by late spring or early summer. DOD plans to buy different weapons systems could stall, resulting in delayed contract awards and the renegotiation of contracts.

?The ?cliff? metaphor is not accurate,? Harrison said. ?It?s more like a slope and it will build from the first year, but it won?t be like a government shutdown, where suddenly at midnight, everyone stops there.?

Patrick Lester, director of fiscal policy at OMB Watch, a progressive Washington think tank, tells people not to panic. He argues that based on his nonprofit?s analysis, the politics for a deal being struck is much better in January. ?Pain focuses the mind,? he said.

The White House and executive office agencies have some ability to soften sequestration?s harshest impacts ? if it kicks in ? because the effects won?t come down immediately.

They can offset some of the pain because they have the authority to control the rate of federal spending. They could use carryover funds to help cushion cuts, redirect funds to more urgent activities and accelerate spending to avoid employee furloughs, Lester said.

?But just because they have this management authority, it doesn?t mean they?ll use it,? he said. The White House?s Office of Management and Budget declined to comment when asked whether using that authority would be considered.

The longer a deal goes unresolved, sequestration becomes a more serious issue, forcing more draconian cuts to make up for the entire fiscal year. With nearly one-fourth of the fiscal year already passed, deeper cuts will be needed to make up for rest of the fiscal year.

For instance, Pentagon spokeswoman Lt. Col. Elizabeth Robbins said DOD is looking at a 12 percent cut in funding for all accounts, except for military personnel accounts, after putting off sequestration planning for months.

?It?s too early in the process and it?s too soon to tell the effects on specific activities and programs,? she said.

Jacob Stokes, a research associate at the Center for a New American Security, a Washington think tank with close ties to the Obama administration, said that it?s important to remember that sequestration is ?not irreversible.?

For that reason, there?s been a shift in rhetoric from the defense contracting industry. The consensus has moved from a doomsday scenario to reassurances that it?s not going to be as bad as originally thought.

The goal is to reassure financial markets, which experts say could be thrown into turmoil if the country goes off the fiscal cliff.

?It will be a lot like standing on ice that?s breaking,? Lester said. ?You can see the cracks breaking around you and eventually you will fall through the ice, so you don?t have unlimited time,? he said. ?You can manage sequestration, but every day that passes, that gets harder and harder to do.?

Lester said he believes that Congress and the president will get a deal done.

?The question,? he said, ?is when.?

US pending home sales rise to highest in 2? years

(AP) ? A measure of Americans who signed contracts to buy homes increased last month to its highest level in two and a half years, the latest sign of improvement in the once-battered housing market.

The National Association of Realtors said Friday that its seasonally adjusted pending home sales index rose 1.7 percent in November from October to 106.4. That's the highest since April 2010, when a homebuyer tax credit caused a spike in sales. And after excluding those months when the tax credit was available, it's the best reading since February 2007.

The increase followed a 5 percent gain in October and suggests higher sales of previously occupied homes in the coming months. There's generally a one- to two-month lag between a signed contract and a completed sale.

In November, signed contracts to buy homes rose in the Northeast and West, and ticked up slightly in the Midwest. They were unchanged in the South.

Home sales are on track to rise 10 percent this year to their highest level in five years, buoyed by ultra-low mortgage rates and steady job gains. The Realtors' group forecasts that sales may rise in 2013 to about 5.1 million. That's still below the more than 5.5 million that is considered consistent with a healthy market.

The housing recovery that began earlier this year is looking sustainable for a number of reasons. The supply of previously occupied homes for sale has finally thinned out and is at an 11-year low. At the same time, more people are looking to buy or rent a home after living with relatives or friends during and in the aftermath of the Great Recession.

The combination of stronger demand and limited supply is pushing up home prices. That could encourage more sellers to put their homes on the market because they can expect a better price.

Builders are also more optimistic that the recovery will endure and are stepping up construction. The pace of home construction was nearly 22 percent higher in November compared with a year earlier. Builders are on track this year to start work on the most homes in four years.

The Six Biggest Investing Lessons of 2012 | The Reformed Broker

  • Joshua M Brown
  • December 28th, 2012

If I should die or lose my WordPress password tomorrow, I'd be satisfied with this post being the last thing you've ever read from me.

Because what is the point of publishing 6500 blog posts (as I have) if you can't crystallize and document the most important lessons learned on a regular basis? I think I've distilled everything I've chronicled this year into the six most important lessons for investors. Other years there are other lessons taught, but this is the knowledge you should be walking away with after 2012:

1. Sometimes there's no one left to buy

This is a very old lesson but a crucial one. When everyone's already in, where are the buyers going to come from?

Over the summer, Apple became the Jesus Stock; no one would ever sell it but, unfortunately, anyyone who could buy it and wanted to buy it had already done so. It had become the greatest Hedge Fund Hotel stock of all time, a massive weighting in all the large cap indexes and an institutional as well as a retail "darling", one of the most widely-held investments in the world. I was at the Ira Sohn conference when David Einhorn announced to a breathless audience of a few thousand asset managers that Apple was his next big pick. It was worth just over $500 billion and Einhorn explained how he had called both the NYSE and the Nasdaq and neither one of them had a restriction against it being worth a trillion.

It was lights out ever since that moment...

Apple has since lost more than $170 billion in market capitalization, a larger dollar amount than the total market caps of the 54 smallest companies in the S&P 500 combined.? Without any Apple enthusiasts left to come in and buy, and absent a decent-sized short interest, there were no natural buyers and a whole host of tax-motivated sellers who'd ridden the stock for a decade, racking up 8000% returns. Oh well.

2. Sometimes there's no one left to sell

Research in Motion's story this fall? was the antithesis of what we saw with Apple. The stock hit six bucks a share, almost a complete and total wipeout of the company's value. But then the market spoke in early September. It said, "Maybe this company is not long-term viable and cannot compete with Apple and Android - but it will not die now. No sir, not on this day." RIMM more than doubled to 14 within a few weeks, a monster return from the depths that happened concurrently with the Apple bludgeoning from 705 to 500.

Take everything you thought you knew about platforms and handsets and technology and throw it out the window, this was about supply and demand, not who had the better product. Just as there was no one left to buy Apple, below 10 dollars a share there wasn't a soul left who would sell their Research In Motion.

Sear the memory of this into your hippocampus.

3. Things change quickly

Let's take a time machine back to the end of 2011 and lay out what we believe will be the top performing equity plays for 2012. Let's tell people the financials, especially the large cap banks, will lead the S&P 500 along with the homebuilder stocks against a backdrop of still-record foreclosure activity, increasing regulation, horrible employment and wage growth stats, etc. Then let's tell them that recessionary - bordering on depressionary - Europe will be the home of the hottest equity markets on earth, with Germany running up 30% by year-end.

What sort of response do you think we'd have gotten to a forecast like that a year ago? Probably slapped across our fat faces with a Scotch salmon wrapped in newspaper. Laughed out of the building, dog.

But things change - in 2012, the?Dow Jones U.S. Home Construction Index was up an amazing 78%, the Financials were the best performing of the 10 S&P Sectors (up 26%) and Europe's main index, the Stoxx 600, is up a solid 15% for the year, over 20% from its June low.

This spring I watched as Jeff Gundlach unveiled his now-legendary pairs trade - short Apple versus a 10X bet on natural gas - the crowd was incredulous, Apple was trading vertically higher after all and nat gas was well on its way to zero.? Turns out that was the trade of the year. Know this - safe can be risky and risky can be safe in the blink of an eye. And mean reversion is always in the on-deck circle, playa.

4. Trends can and will persist past the point of sanity

Let's consider that US 10-year Treasury bonds have been yielding around 1.7% for most of the year while the annual run rate of inflation is 2.2%, thus guaranteeing a destruction of purchasing power for the holders. This bond binge continuing despite a growing economy, low stock volatility and no major systemic disruption in the markets at the moment is quite a thing to behold. Investors spent the year continuously pulling money from stocks to flood the bond market like the animated broomsticks in Fantasia with their buckets sloshing about. It makes no sense, but betting against it has been a loser.

How long can these trends go one while everyone agrees they shouldn't?? Ask some of the geniuses who've been entangled in the Short-Japanese Government Bonds (JGBs) "widowmaker trade". The answer is almost forever, and you will capitulate just before the turn. Of course you will.

5. "Uncertainty" is a buy signal, not a sell signal

When you hear the term "uncertainty" being bandied about from every corner of the universe, you may want to consider putting in some buy orders. Let's take Greece. How much uncertainty was there about the oft-lamented Mediterranean problem child nation? The maximum. There could not have been more. Each day, the discussion was about when (not if) they would leave the Euro Zone, would they voluntarily withdraw or would they be kicked out, how may millions of people would starve on the streets when it happened and who would be next.

And while all these motherfuckers were busy blabbing away about the "Fate of Greece" the Athens Stock Exchange decided to rally 34% this year, doubling the returns of the S&P 500, Switzerland, France, the Emerging Markets index, the Asia Pacific region and just about everything else in sight. Your passing, superficial knowledge of the risk factors of a given thing, gleaned from newspapers and television and repeated ad nauseum by a million wannabe pundits and newsletter writers, are priced in. Tell me something I don't know.

Uncertainty is why Wilbur Ross gets to buy up the nation's entire complex of bankrupt coal and steel plants in the 1990's while no one else would even think about it. It's why Dan Loeb can buy a billion dollars worth of Greek bonds in August and sell them for a $500 million profit four months later.

Uncertainty is how kings are made.

6. Usually, the asteroid misses earth

Markets usually climb a Wall of Worry they say. Let me tell you something - investors of other eras don't even know the meaning of the term Wall of Worry.

The shit we've had to listen to and worry about this year all at once will be looked back on someday by a future generation and marveled at. China's hard landing, the break-up of the Euro, the Fiscal Cliff and on and on. This is to say nothing of the collapse of the largest commodities brokerages, the London Whale, the LIBOR scandal, Lloyd Blankfein totally nude, the loss of trusted reporter Kelly Evans to England, etc. Some of the top veteran hedge fund managers threw the towel in this year, for no reason other than they had had enough, and possessed no explanation for what they were supposed to be saying or doing anymore. The emotions, the intellectual incongruity of the whole thing, it was just gut-wrenching and the fun - if ever it was fun - had been wrung out of it. Even Wall Street's full-of-shit Chief Strategist promotion machine struggled this year, a record amount of bearishness had crept into their forecasts and estimates - something we almost never see.

If you've traded and invested this year and came out okay, then you are to be commended, this was a tough one no matter what the index statistics say. Nerve-wracking doesn't even come close as a descriptor - we were Riverdancing on a frozen-over pond with steel-tipped boots and ice sharks swimming below the cracking surface just waiting for us to fall through. And those ice sharks had some kind of weird fish syphilis.

The asteroid certainly seemed to have been getting closer at various moments, but alas, the end of the world was not to be. I'm protectively shielding my crotch with one hand as I write this, wincing at the thought of an immediate boot-kick from any of the disasters we've managed to skate past.

But once again, the asteroid missed earth in 2012. We are alive and live to fight another year, much to the chagrin of basement-dwelling misanthropes and grumpy old men everywhere. To the fear-mongers: I'm so sorry your apocalypse was staved off another twelve months, better luck in 2013, bitches :)

To everyone else - those of us who are investing for prosperity and for the future, I'll say that it's been an honor serving in the trenches with you this year. Sometimes we traded together and sometimes we had opposing positions on. But always, we did our best to remain constructive and to make sense of the news and the data and the action on our screens. And now we're that much smarter and tougher, wizened and battle-tested, for the new year to come.

Eric Chua : Life, Business and Real Estate in Singapore ? Internet ...

To attract the potential customers you need and the higher sales you want, Affiliate marketing is an essential. You?ll learn some great tips about Affiliate marketing in this article. By following these suggestions you will have an increased chance for marketing success.

Take time to learn web design basics. There is a lot of HTML information online to help you learn web design. Dedicate a certain amount of time each day to learning web design and your website will be reaping the benefits before you know it.

You can increase your success at Affiliate marketing by creating a viral video with tags and uploading it. These videos can be backlinked to your site to increase exposure. This can help boost the number of visitors on your site regularly.

TIP! Viral videos can be an enormous help for generating traffic. Viral videos can be difficult to create, but when you strike it big you?re looking at view counts in the thousands or millions.

Try asking for feedback from customers who don?t buy anything. Ask them what you can do to get their business. There are many reasons people choose not to purchase a product.

Think about hosting a one-dollar sale for new clients. These things will help people spread the word about your company, while introducing your product or service to more people. You never know, you just may sell additional products too, once they come to your site. Increasing the traffic to your website will lead to an increase in sales.

The placement of ads is one of the simplest, yet most productive forms of Affiliate marketing. You can achieve this by using Google?s AdSense. For your effort and the reasonable cost, this is one of the best bargains around.

TIP! If you are good at writing, write an article about your business and submit it to magazines that accept submissions. Make sure you include your business information and website information in your articles.

Regular blogging can really infuse your affiliate marketing with success. A blog is a convenient tool for informing customers about new products and promotions. Also, a blog makes your website larger, making it more visible to search engines and increasing the number of visitors to your site in the long run.

One way to provide high-quality content and advance your Internet promotion goals is to secure interviews with respected authorities in your website?s niche. Audio and video can be used to write or make these interviews. Your interview will increase your own reputation through osmosis, and really high-profile interviewees will bring along fresh visitors with them, boosting your website?s traffic.

Stay on track with your advertising budget. You don?t want to waste money on something that is of no benefit to your business. When investing, you need to be sure that you?re going to get what need from it. That is why advertising using banners is a wise investment.

TIP! Knowing your competition is vital in internet marketing. There is competition for every niche that you could possibly work in.

Direct marketing is complementary to any Web marketing campaign. Get in touch with customers, via phone or email, to let them know about the specials you are offering. A local phone book or online directory can be an invaluable source of information as you prepare to contact customers.

In your online advertising, use words such as ?special edition? or ?limited edition?. People are especially interested in obtaining exclusive merchandise. Using those descriptions can entice prospective customers to make a spontaneous purchase.

A press release might help you to increase traffic, and it is a fantastic way to market your brand. Informative press releases that are clear and concise can help establish what you are offering in a professional way. This can elevate the quality of your product and increase your visibility.

TIP! If using images on your site, always include captions. Search engines factor in the relevancy of your caption text when determining if your site is a good fit for the keyword.

Creating an effective user interface where customers can view your products is important for variety and overall success. Be sure to offer plenty of ways for people to check out your products, while still properly organizing your site.

If you?re writing articles to market yourself online, stay focused on your goals. Know what kind of content you want to promote and make every effort to get your messages out clearly. Directories have different needs; some might want short articles, while others require long ones. With these goals and guidelines, you will be able to have excellent submissions.

Try offering incentives for referrals! Offer a freebie for a certain number of referrals to turn that one sale into multiple sales. People love free and this can get more traffic your way.

TIP! Design your website according to the best web design principles and fill it with valuable content. Your site or blog will be at the center of your online marketing efforts.

Your website needs to be as effective as possible in order to increase your marketing success. Make sure that your site is easy to read, contains engaging information and answers to questions visitors may have. Naturally, visitors stay longer on websites that they find attractive, interesting and useful.

Consider implementing mobile marketing in your business. Let visitors sign up for text alerts that will inform them of a big sale. It is an innovative way to reach a broader audience, while they are on the go.

A spot dedicated to reviews from customers is a great idea for your site. Customers like to post their actual experiences with your products and these can provide you with new sales, too.

TIP! You always have to have the evidence ready to back up any claims that you make in your marketing efforts. A lot of people simply don?t believe what they read.

Power up your internet promotion! Always keep your primary goal in mind when creating a landing page, and make sure that objective is apparent. The landing page should be focused on sales. It should be obvious to the viewer what it is that you are selling as soon as they arrive on the landing page! If the first page a visitor sees is overly complicated and hard to navigate, they will click away in the blink of an eye.

As mentioned earlier, your company can see a great increase in visibility through Web marketing. When regular advertising doesn?t give you the exposure you desire, Website marketing is a handy tool. A well-crafted online campaign can and link you to ideal customers all over the world, and using the tips you?ve just read can help you get started.

Nine Practical Pointers for Effective Estate Planning - Washington ...

Estate planning can be intimidating if you don?t have enough
information at hand to make crucial decisions about your future and the future
of your loved ones. Consider these nine practical tips for successful estate
planning:

?

  1. Keep your important documents like your will or
trust up-to-date. Keep your legal residence address, marriage status, children,
    guardian list, etc. updated.

  2. Keep track of beneficiaries for all of your
IRAs, qualified plans and insurance policies. If you don't, they may be going
to someone you no longer wish to receive them.

  3. Maximize the liquidity of your estate. Liquidity
is defined as the ability to quickly turn assets into cash. Without sufficient
cash to pay taxes, funeral, and other expenses, your family may have to sell
illiquid assets - such as a family business or other property - at an
    inopportune time.

  4. Maintain an appropriate mix of investment risk.
Over time, more risky investments like stocks and mutual funds should be moved
into safe and stable investments such as annuities.

  5. Name a dependable executor and/or trustee.
Executors are called upon to collect assets, pay obligations, and distribute
your assets. Your trustee must enforce all the provisions of any trusts you
created. Choose people who have the knowledge, integrity and stamina in the
face of pressure from family members to fulfill these obligations.

  6. If you have minor children, consider naming one
guardian for your minor children and a separate guardian for the property
you've left to support them. The best guardian for your children may not be the
most effective money manager you know.

  7. Estate planning for your spouse. If your net
worth is high enough, your estate may be subject to taxes. A simple estate plan
can potentially save your loved ones hundreds of thousands of dollars in estate
    taxes.

  8. Leaving the right assets to the right people.
Make sure proper financial management systems are in place for people such as special
needs children, teenagers, or other dependents.

  9. Plan, plan, plan. While estate planning is
important for everyone, it is most important for business owners, who must plan
for the succession and/or buyout of their business.

This is just
an overview of estate planning issues that should be addressed by you and your
attorney. Remember, every situation is different and your estate plan is not
going to look exactly like your neighbor?s estate plan. It is best to contact a
knowledgeable estate planning attorney to assist you in protecting everyone you
love and everything you have.

?My husband, Craig, came home and surprised all his family. He was gone for 6 months doing training in Missouri, and we told his family he couldn?t make it for Christmas. He was trying to come home for recruiter?s assistance and we got his final orders right before Thanksgiving. We had a party at his sister?s house when he surprised everybody.
