Can you believe Summer is almost over? This year has just flown by!
Before the kids get back in the swing of school schedules and activities, here are 10 always-mean-to-do things you should get started now!
?
1. Start a family together night
Life gets busy and budgets can be tight, but you know what your kids will remember? How much fun they had when the family spent quality time together. Pick a night and time every week and make it family game night and family movie night. Snacks and music (even just microwave popcorn if it is ?a movie night) make it feel like a?party.
2. Have a family dance party
Ever since my kids were small, we have always had impromptu?dance parties.? Just crank up the tunes, grab the kids by the hand, and dance like a fool ? the kids love it and it is a good reminder to enjoy all the wonderful silliness of raising kids.
3. Make Halloween costumes
Ok. Maybe you aren?t feeling ambitious enough to make a whole costume, but how a out making a hat or accessory like a trick or treat bag? Start now and you will be ahead of the game.
4. Take pictures of your home
Might seem silly and boring now (?why do I need a picture, I live here!?) but trust me?in 10 years, you will love seeing the cabinets before you remodeled, the label on the ketchup, the dog bed, and all the little details you never notice. These are not Better Homes and Gardens shots?I?m talking a snapshot of life as it is today. Don?t even worry that it is messy. Sometimes that is life and you will want to remember what it feels like to be exactly where you are today, exactly as it is.
5. Start making a Christmas or Holiday Gift Right Now
Have you always wanted to give your Mom a hand embroidered quilt or some other really special handmade gift for the Holidays? People who give that kind of stuff start those projects right about now, just as the Summer is ending. If that is something you aspire to do, put it on your calendar to start in August.
6. Make a vision board
Is there something you are dreaming of doing, something you want, or a goal you would love to accomplish? I?ve talked about the power of positive thinking and vision boards in the past, and now with technology it is even easier. A friend recently sent me this cool iPad app tht lets you create a vision board from all your favorite pins digitally. Or you can do it the old scrappy way?a great way to use your magazines!
7. Take a family picture
Whether it is a professionally taken photo or just Mom or Dad running to the tripod to set the camera, Get the family cleaned up, go outside some afternoon and get a family portrait.
8. Print your pictures
Summer camp and sports pictures, fun sleepovers, camping and beach trip pics: You captured them all! But too many of us (me included) forget to print our special memories so we can enjoy them. Pick 20 or 3o pictures from the first part of this year and upload them to a digital service like Snapfish or even Walmart Photo and get them printed and mailed to you. You can also get photo paper at the store and DIY print them if you have a good printer at home. Don?t feel like you need to even do a project or scrapbook with them just now. Put them in a pretty box and label the back with the year/date so they are ready when you have an inspired idea to display them.
9. Organize your art and craft supplies
I like to do a big craft space clean up about once a year. If you need to get some bins to keep your items in categories, do it now. You will be shocked at how much more creative you feel when your energy isn?t spent clearing off a surface to craft on or searching for your bubblegum pink flocking.
10. Take a first step
A lot of you who I have spoken to dream of having a full-time creative business. You know what sets people who own craft businesses apart from people who don?t? Just one step ? getting started. A dream is not often something that comes true overnight, but if you ovethink it and don?t act on your desires, it won?t happen. Start your blog (Try WordPress or Blogger ? it is free) or sign up with a friend to do a Fall craft fair. If you have an idea or a dream, don?t think you have to have all of the answers worked out. Just take the first step towards your goal. Then the next step will seem even easier.
