Samsung Galaxy II 4G Comes To Boost Mobile For $360 Off-Contract

If you thought Samsung's Galaxy Nexus was a steal at under $400 unlocked and off-contract, have a look at this. Boost Mobile, known for down-to-earth pricing and a fairly impressive selection of off-contract phones, has just nabbed the Samsung Galaxy S II 4G. It's a 4G variant of what was probably last year's most impressive Android smartphone, and while it's definitely not the newer "III" edition, the price here is worth crowing about. Historically, prepaid carriers have received the smartphones that postpaid carriers didn't want. The selection was fairly "meh," and you ended up settling rather than walking out with a handset that rivaled those on postpaid operators.

Now, that's changing. Even last year's flagship phones are holding their own today, and the trickle-down effect has placed the Galaxy S II on the shelves of Boost Mobile. This one has a 1.2GHz dual-core Exynos processor, 1080p movie mode, an 8MP rear camera, 2MP front-facing camera (for video chats and the like), a 4.5" Super AMOLED Plus display, WiMAX / EVDO-Rev A. radios and an 1800mAh battery. It'll ship in black and white, and the price tag will sit at an astonishing $360. Yes, that's pricey compared to those $99-on-contract phones you see elsewhere, but remember: this is with no strings attached. You aren't locked in to some long-term agreement, and to put it in perspective, the Galaxy S III off-contract today runs close to $600.

Not a bad deal for those who hate being tied down.
