Rufford Old Hall, near Preston, is one of more than 15 Lancashire venues taking part in the Museums at Night event from 16th ? 19th May. Like Blackwell in Cumbria, the theme will be Murder and Mystery ? a perfect match for the dark oak panelling and antique chests.
One of Lancashire?s best preserved 16th century buildings, Rufford Old Hall is a Grade I listed manor house built for the Hesketh family in about 1530, with two additional wings added in 1661 and 1820. Although the family moved to Rufford New Hall in the late 18th Century, the Old Hall remained in their possession until 1936, when the 1st Baron Hesketh donated it to the National Trust, together with its arms, armour and collection of antique furniture.
The latter ranges from 17th century antique chests to a Victorian oak partners desk , both of which can be found in the study. This room, built in the 1820s but remodelled 100 years later, is the perfect setting for an Agatha Christie novel, and in fact the hall will be hosting a Murder Mystery dinner on 18th May 2013 as part of the Museums at Night programme. Blackwell Arts and Crafts House in Cumbria is furnished with Tudor Gothic Arts & Crafts furniture of similar style, and not surprisingly will be holding a similarly themed event.
Whether it?s a Tudor hall in Preston or a 1920s house in Cumbria, an antique desk adds a timeless elegance to any home. Antique dealers in Lancashire have a wide variety to choose from.
